Men's Shed - KFRC

Following an inactive spell during Covid 19, the KFRC Men’s Shed reduced to just four members. A relaunch in January 2023 with the support of the board of directors of the Kilnamanagh Family Recreation Centre CLG, saw the shed numbers grow steadily and currently the KFRC Men’s Shed has over 30 registered members. The activities of the KFRC Shed are broadly divided between those who engage in manufacturing woodwork artifacts and projects in the ‘outside’ woodwork shed and those who prefer to enjoy indoor bowls and pool within the confines of the community centre building. Every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. all shed members get together for tea/coffee and a chat. To assist with the integration of new members, all shed members wear a lanyard during that half-hour.

The main aim of the KFRC Shed is to provide opportunities for men to socialize and share their skills in a friendly and safe environment. Membership of the KFRC Men’s Shed is open to all current adult male members of the Kilnamanagh Family Recreation Centre CLG. In other words, the members of the KFRC Men’s Shed are drawn from the general membership of the Kilnamanagh Family Recreation Centre Association.

In January 2024, twenty-five members attended the KFRC Men’s Shed Annual General Meeting at which the members of the management committee were elected. These members of the management committee in turn elected the chairman (Tony Condren), Treasurer (P.J. Conroy) and Secretary (Brendan Ryan). The management committee currently meets once per month to regulate the business of the shed in relation to membership, outings, projects, sports and finance. The twenty-five members who attended the KFRC Men’s Shed Annual General Meeting in January 2024 voted to introduce a monthly fee of €5 per member per month. This is now in operation.
